So, the Judges reins have been handed over to me for a while. Unfortunately, that keeps me from writing as much as I normally would, and, sadly, none of the players has stepped up to keep the logs.
That said, the adventure takes place outside the small farming community of Farmwell. Several dozen townspeople have gone missing from the fields or been taken in the middle of the night from their homes, with no clues about who, why, or how. Although, fear, rumors, and speculation abound with the townsfolk they are grateful for the the party's involvement.
When did the disappearances begin? Several weeks before, there were heavy rains that caused flooding. Nearby, a large, steep hilltop experienced a mudslide that washed the top of a hill down its side, creating a ramp. The rumble was felt as far away as the town. After the rains ceased and the mud began to dry, that was when the attacks began. Those who went to see the hill, found that the top had washed clean off, leaving a butte, atop of which was a large walled structure, like a keep. No one was interested in getting very close, because odd foot prints could be seen in the muddy ramp leading to the top. Footprints that were clearly not human.
In the ensuing battles, the party's numbers were decimated. Seeking volunteers from the town, the party was able to keep their numbers at survivable levels. At least that was the idea. At this point, the number of volunteers who have died may exceed the number of villagers who disappeared in the preceding weeks.
Inside the keep, horrible dangers, magics, strangling vines, beast men, and serpent men continuously beat down on the party.
Sadly, in addition the innumerable peasants, Ankrima the Dwarf, Hecate the Warrior, and Kenny the Cleric passed recently. All from two different encounters with deadly creeping vines.
Skivvy the Thief has gained an amazing new power from eating the fruit of these creeping vines. He can attempt to command others with the power of his voice. Not an ability most people would wish a thief to posses.
Lastly, thief Andy the Cooper has come into the possession of a sentient sword. The sword has shared great power with Andy, but at a cost of fighting to control the wishes of the sword. While offering advice, the sword seems to enjoy the bloodiest options available. It had even talked him into leaving an unconscious comrade behind in the vine pits below the tower.
