Soul Stabber informs Andy that he knows a way to bring back Ankrima, but only has 24 hours from the time of her death to bring her back. Haggard from their perils in the tunnels beneath the tower, the party has a tough decision to make. Ankrima's friend, Simp the Wimp, is dead set against bringing back Ankrima or doing anything the Sword suggests. Simp had previously held the sword and firmly believes that anything it says or does is firmly rooted in evil. Eventually, the unbridled enthusiasm from the rest of the party grudgingly, fatalistically, sways Simp. Soul Stabber says that a ceremony must be performed in the mountains, near the dimensional shield. 20 villagers are needed to complete the ceremony to open a portal into the other realm where Ankrima can be brought back. Once there the party will need to locate a large sarcophagus and place Ankrima inside.
The expedition sets out to a cave in the mountains, finding it just where Soul Stabber said it would be. Inside, the party gathers in the middle of the group of peasants. Andy holds Soul Stabber aloft and begins to recite the incantation as whispered by Soul Stabber. Winds whip up and a violet/pinkish charge dances up and down Soul Stabber. The magical, electrical energy leaps from the sword to the peasants and dances amongst them, building. They begin to see a portal opening above them and descend to sweep them away. At the last moment, three of the peasants explode like over ripe fruit, spraying the party. Darkness descends only to be replace by a rectangular gray room. The party is there, as well as 17 peasants. Andy relays surprise from Soul Stabber saying that this is not what he expected. Simp blames Andy for this and says it is what happens when you follow an evil sword.
Andy wishes to consult Soul Stabber and attempts to talk with him. Soul Stabber begins a mental battle for control of Andy. Andy tries and regains control, but is still far too fatigued to offer more than a token resistance. Shortly, Andy looks up, wielding Soul Stabber and begins to swing wildly at his friends. Wild swings abound at this surprising turn of event. Except for Simp the Wimp. Knowing he faces great evil, he attempts to exorcise either the sword or Andy using his holy powers. Andy quivers, turns to face Simp, and ignoring the blows reigning down upon him, launches himself at Simp, grievously wounding him. Thinking quickly, the rest of the party lasso and grapple him, allowing Simp to retreat to the corner of the room.
Knowing in his heart that this is an extreme evil, Simp prays to his god for help in freeing Andy from the sword. A smell of ozone fills the air, and a shaft of golden holy power, entwined with the same violet energy from the portal, lances through the air and strikes the sword. A blazingly blinding blast blows the sword across the room and drops Andy in his tracks. Others near by are also bowled over. Soul Stabber lands near Simp; and he forbids others from touching it, content to leave it in this place, this other dimension, for all time.
Shaken by the experience, Micheal blindly opens a door on the east wall and runs into the next room. There he finds a large mushroom like plant that begins to shriek loudly. The rest of the party, having faced this type of creature before, decides to cautiously move in the opposite direction and moves to a door in the south wall. Calling for Micheal to join them. The party moves on when he declines and says that he will be fine…
The whole group troops cautiously into the next room. There is almost an tangible sense of relief when no-one immediately dies. They see large room, with the far side shrouded in darkness. What they can see are mannequins of a sorts all along the outside wall. There are doors around most of the room. The mannequins seem to be dressed in an odd assortment of clothing, equipment, and weapons or tools. Most have smooth faceless heads. One, however, is a beautiful woman, dressed in a diaphanous turquoise gown. Touching her on the shoulder, Simp is startled when her eyes open she begins to engage with him. Color comes to her cheeks, breath returns to her frame, and she talks to him in a strange, eerily sibilant tongue. He moves to touch her shoulder and she returns in kind, her hand warm. She cock her head and intones what appears to be a question. Finally, Simp pulls away. Looking forlorn, the woman steps back and seems to fall back into her statue-like demeanor. The color drains from her cheek, her eyes cast down, and her breath falling silent.
Stan the Melted, a former soldier, rushes the door on the south wall. In his haste, he must have brushed up against a martial looking mannequin. Dressed in what appears to be tubes of metal foil, and a helmet without mesh, eye holes, or even a place to breath mannequin brings up a thin whip-like sword. Without a sound, the mannequin sticks Stan once then twice. Stan drops to the floor dead. With a flick that sends the blood cleanly off the sword, the mannequin give a little salute and returns to an "at attention" pose.
There are some further explorations and determination of several stuck doors, several sets of thieves tools are discovered, just before Micheal comes running in from the door from the original room. He claimed he was attacked by humanoid vegetables. Green creatures, heads shaped like squash, ropy and vine-like arms and legs. He was rushing into another room and almost stumbled over three of them. With soft screechy cries and ululation, they grabbed up spears and began attacking them. He was struck, but was able to get away by pushing them back and fleeing. While the others accepted the news grimly, they seemed to have little sympathy for him wandering off alone.
Pushing ahead, the party opens the western door. Inside they see three of the exact types of creatures that Micheal described. Falling back, battle ensues. In the panic, the creatures quickly dispatch to of the group, while the group seems unable to hit them. Finally, Spawn casts a spell, causing it to erupt in flame and explode in a pile of ash. The creatures flee. 12-1 odds do not seem enticing to them, no matter how badly the interlopers fought. Apparently, exploding in flaming death is not their desired demise.
Catching their breath, the party takes a moment to decide what to do. Not yet healed from the battle beneath the tower, dead bodies piling up, and most everyone wounded or exhausted beyond function.
